We Launched the Walmart Challenge today!

We didn't buy ANY junk food including our major downfall- soda.  We are purging the refrigerator and freezer of the nasty stuff, but surprisingly we have TONS of the good stuff in there!  We are in the process of doing our menu planning  sticking to only spending 167.00 a week on food.

Tonight's dinner-  Quorn patties with cranberries/grueyer cheese with steamed veggies.

How is the RA doing-  absolutely awful.  I know that I am still coming out of Prednisone withdrawal BUT Colorado has been having the worst weather and my KNEES are acting like they need to be cut off!!  It seems like the pain has shifted from my hands/wrists to my knees.

I have been taking a lot of painkillers lately and I am really hating it.  I did take my 2nd injection of Simponi and it seems like some days it works and other days it seems like I am not taking anything for my RA.  I called the makers of Simponi and spoke to their healthcare specialists.  They don't even really start to ask their patients about improvement until 14 weeks into the shot therapy.  I am only 6 weeks into the therapy, so I have to wait another 8 weeks to see if the Simponi is really taking effect.

But this week, I am calling my PCP this week to get a referral to a Rheumatologist because we now officially have insurance and I can get my lab work done and a proper medical treatment.

Did I mention that we are moving?  Yes, we are having to move to Colorado Springs because of my hubby's new career.  He is still doing IT but he now works for the State of Colorado.  Benefits, Retirement and NO working nights!  I think we are still trying to adjust to the working the day schedule but it will work out.

Ok, I am now off to get the menu done for this upcoming week because that is how I keep on budget with the Walmart 167 Challenge!

  1. Congrats on the launch, Stephanie! Here's wishing you the very best of luck as you stick to your budget while purging empty, harmful calories from your diet. You can't help but start to feel better overall as time passes, eating so mindfully.

I'm sorry your RA is giving you so much trouble, though. My fingers are crossed that the Simponi WILL work, given more time, and glad, too, that you'll be able to see a rheumatologist in the near future. Things are really looking up for you! Even with a move to a new home, it sounds like you're really making some excellent changes. Sometimes new surroundings can be a big boost.

Keep us up to date on how you're doing, will you? I hope your weekend is a good one, with lots of laughs, sunshine and fun.

  2. Hi! I have just started following your blog and am pleased to say that I have managed to get a degree, have 3 children and at last have found an RA treatment that seems to be working (well, as good as I'm going to get I think!) I am on Cimzia as it has just been licensed here and it seems alright so far, no nasty nasty side effects and better still- SHE WORKS! Interestingly we are trying to get our weekly shop down to £130 a week- funny how we are all trying to do the same at other sides of the world. I am really into history, am about to start a new Alison Wier novel on ipod...! Nice to "meet" you and perhaps you will get chance to visit my blog page? Moving house is such an exciting but stressy thing. Are mortgages really hard to get in the US, credit is very tough to get here in the UK still. Anyhow! Hope the weekend went well.
