The Biggest Loser Casting Call and RA- What did I Learn?

This past weekend, me and my hubby drove down to Alburquerque, NM, for a Biggest Loser casting call.  Overall, I was disappointed with it and I think you can do better with submitting a DVD.  Would I go again?  Yes, but only if it is in Colorado or NM because I do get to see my friend Laura!  BUT I am going to submit a DVD just to see what happens!

But more importantly, it was a learning experience for me.  Here are some thoughts about the day-

  • I finally got my hubby to admit that it was time for him to start to look at himself and realize that now with being on blood pressure medicine, he HAS to lose those 40 lbs to help control the BP and lessen his narcolepsy symptoms.
  • Hubby admitted that our family has poor eating habits and that he has several of those bad habits.
  • In order for me to make sure I have a long and happy life that does include RA, I need to give my body the best chance of coping with the disease.  That means I need to take the pressure off my joints and start to be more kind to them.
  • I don't need a reality show (but it would be fun!) to kick start my weight loss again.  I just need a good plan that has lots of variety in foods and activity.
  • I do have lots of support to help me kick this stupid weight!
I am pretty sure that I have completed my grieving process with the RA.  I have completely and totally accepted it.  That doesn't mean that I have to like it, but I can deal with it.  I have started on that process by filling out the application for assistance in getting the Simponi shot to deal with the RA.  Dr. Sean said that this drug is very powerful and almost sends people into a "remission" state with the RA.  In my book that is good enough for me!

I am now back to my idea of the Wal-Mart Challenge project and I am now working on the website with my hubby.  I REALLY think this idea could help millions of people not only struggling with weight issues but how to feed their families and not have to rob the rank or worry if the food stamps are going to run out.  I am now picking up the research and my hubby is designing the website.  We will have webcasts, recipes, programs, ideas, etc.

As for a launch date- I can't give one, but I would like to shoot for June.  I will Facebook and Tweet about this as plans fall into place.

But right now is time for me to finish my breakfast!  I am having steel-cut oatmeal with bananas!

  1. I grill or bake skinned chicken breasts -- say, a package of eight -- at a time. Some are used for dinner, others for lunches, until they're gone. You can cook and freeze them ahead, too. They make a very good, high-protein, low-fat lunch with a salad and/or cooked veggies. They can be eaten cold, too, if you're taking them to work and don't have a microwave. A handful of almonds is a great snack for those munchy in-between-meals times, as are fresh fruits.

I'm looking forward to seeing your website, Stephanie. I'm sorry you didn't get chosen for The Biggest Loser, but I think you can do this without the humiliation of being razzed on national TV. You go, grrrrl!

  2. This is exciting! I love watching the Biggest Loser ....its a great show to see progress. I think you are too small for the show though. These days they want extremely obese people. I'm overweight and would probably look anorexic compared to some of the people they have on the show these days. I wish they would do a Biggest Loser for 200 pounders only and then only for 300 pounders and so on. I would watch them all. Good luck on your on your weight loss journey....will you be posting the link to your website for us to follow along?

  3. I will be posting the link here on the blog, Facebook, and Twitter for all the website information!

There is an update- I DID get approved for the Simponi shots and I do not have a co-pay for a whole year! I am grateful and blessed. I am going to work on my weight because the RA is going to be treated, too!
